Quattro homebuyers head happy into the holidays

Holiday spirits were high as couples, singles and families all celebrated their ‘wins’ at Quattro: The New Queens Park’s latest public land ballot on Saturday, 17 December 2011.

Freddie and Quynh Quan are looking forward to having more space for their young family.

“With three little boys under five in the house, things are pretty cramped and we’re only going to need more room as the kids get older,” said Freddie.

“We’re really excited to build at Quattro and finally have enough space to suit our needs and our boisterous boys!”

The lucky last number drawn from the barrel belonged to first homebuyers Monita and Tigon Leong.

“We thought ‘oh no not again’ because we were the last people called at the previous Quattro ballot, missing out on our preferred lot,” said Monita.

“This time around we were fortunate that no-one before us had selected the one we wanted and we’re just so happy and relieved to be walking away with our first choice."

“We live in Gosnells at the moment but work in the city so the commute from Quattro is going to be much better."

“It’s our four-year wedding anniversary in February and to celebrate we’re going on our first European holiday. We can’t wait to start building when we get back!”

Peet Limited Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore congratulated the successful buyers and said the ballot was one of the last opportunities to build a new home at Quattro: The New Queens Park.

It was a case of ‘third-time-lucky’ for homebuyers Clare Chai and Eric Tan when Quattro: The New Queens Park's newest homesites were released by public on Saturday 25 June 2011.  

This was the third time the couple had pinned their hopes on a ballot opportunity and they were just about to give up their dream of joining the Quattro community – when their number was called and they became one of the first to claim their home site!

“We were unsuccessful at the previous two ballots,” said Clare. “So you can imagine how relieved and happy we are to finally have our own block, and it’s our number one choice too!

“It’s been an exciting week all round actually. We sold our house, my husband got promoted at work, and now this – I’m tempted to go out and buy a lotto ticket!

Quattro will be the perfect place to call home for the couple who hope to start a family.

“The location is very convenient for both of us because I work in the city and Clare works at Carousel,” said Eric.

“We like Quattro because it’s a new estate with a variety of land to accommodate everybody, the blocks are good sizes and priced well. We also like that there is street parking for our friends when they come to visit.”

Lucky homebuyers draw the Quattro lifestyle

More than 40 homebuyers gathered in nervous anticipation hoping that their ball would be drawn from the barrel, when Quattro: The New Queens Park's newest homesites were released by public ballot last weekend (Saturday 9 April 2011).  

Held at the Quattro Sustainable Home, the community's land ballot attracted strong interest from Perth homebuyers – with all but five of the 33 available homesites snapped up on the day. 

High school sweethearts and first homebuyers Jack Siddons and Hong Yan's nerves were soon put to rest when their lucky number was called and they became one of the first to claim their homesite!

"Quattro is a good spot for us because our lives are pretty much based in and around the CBD," said Jack.  "We met at Mount Lawley High School and have grown up together in the surrounding suburbs.

 "We love to be together," said the new homebuyer, Melat.  "And living close means we can share babysitting and help each other so much more."

Melat’s brother-in-law was the very first family member to purchase at Quattro and said the family was thrilled to have this opportunity. "We have been waiting two years for all the family to be together again, so we're very excited and relieved" she said.

Quattro offers funding boost for local groups

Are you involved with a local community group, project or event that could do with a helping hand? If the answer is “yes”, the Quattro Community Grants team would like to hear from you.

Applications are now open for the latest round of funding with grants of up to $5,000 available to support current activities or help to kick-start a new initiative with applications for the grants closing on Friday 25 February 2011.

This is the fifth round of Quattro Community Grants and since its inception the Department of Housing has provided more than 20 different community projects in excess of $20,000 in much needed funds.

Organisations undertaking projects in the areas of the environment, sport, the arts, youth, leisure and recreation are particularly encouraged to apply.

Department of Housing Director General Grahame Searle said the Department is pleased to be continuing its support of the Queens Park community with a new round of funding.

“The grants program is an important part of the project’s commitment to supporting the local community and the groups and individuals who are making a significant contribution to the area,” said Mr Searle.

Last year five local groups received grants to help them to undertake a range of activities within the Queens Park community. Grant recipients included the Friends of Queens Park Bushland, St Vincent de Paul Society, the Richmond Fellowship, the Turkish Islamic Association of WA Inc and the Queens Park Primary School.

All interested groups must apply and groups who have applied before, even if they’ve been unsuccessful are welcome to apply again.

Sustainable House Day helps homebuyers go green at Quattro!

The Department of Housing’s award-winning Sustainable Home at Quattro: The New Queens Park opened its doors to more than 70 visitors last weekend (Sunday 12 September 2010), as part of its Sustainable House Day celebrations.

Sustainable House Day is a national initiative in its ninth year and, this year, Quattro joined a record 270 of Australia’s greenest homes to showcase the most environmentally-friendly home designs in the country.

Prospective homebuyers seeking inspiration and advice about incorporating sustainable practices into building their new homes were offered the opportunity to tour the home and meet with its designers.

Four local groups from the Queens Park area were presented with cheques at a special ceremony at the Quattro Sustainable Home last Friday (11 December) after being named as the successful applicants in the 2009 Quattro: The New Queens Park Community Grants Program.



Representatives from each of the successful groups were on hand to receive their grant from Quattro: The New Queens Park project partners the Department of Housing and Peet Limited.

Since its inception, the Program has provided almost 20 different community projects with more than $20,000 in much needed funds. 

Grahame Searle, Director General at the Department of Housing said the sponsorship initiative is an important part of the project’s commitment to supporting the Queens Park community.

“The Department of Housing is very pleased to again be involved in this program,” said Mr Searle. 

“The Quattro project is an innovative urban renewal project, delivering affordable land close to the city and revitalising the Queens Park area and it’s exciting to see such great work being undertaken by these organisations to support the local community.”

The four successful grant recipients in this round of funding are:

Friends of Queens Park Bushland: The Friends of Queens Park Bushland will undertake a revegetation program in the Gill Brennan Reserve which will entail seed collection, planting, protective bagging and follow up weeding throughout the year.

St Vincent de Paul Society: The Queens Park group of the St Vincent de Paul Society deliver emergency relief in the Queens Park community – providing assistance with food, material aid, utility bills, budget advice, advocacy and referrals.

The Richmond Fellowship of WA – Queens Park: The Richmond Fellowship supports individuals diagnosed with a mental illness and funding will go towards the production of a short film titled ‘The Queens Park Castle’, which follows the recovery journey of Queens Park Richmond Fellowship site residents living with mental illness.

Turkish Islamic Association of WA Inc: The funds assisted in the support of a community event run by the Turkish Islamic Association of WA Inc. to celebrate the Kurban Bayram / Eid al Adha – held in Maniana Park and attended by more than 400 local residents and visitors to Queens Park.

Peet Limited Managing Director Brendan Gore said it was encouraging to see what a difference the grants can make to the organisations and groups who receive them.

“Whether it’s offering assistance to a grass-roots project, supporting a community event or local organisation, we have seen fantastic work flow from the Quattro community grants program.”

“It is a very worthwhile initiative and I encourage all local groups to apply for the grants next year,” Mr Gore said.

Peet teamed up with more than 30 builders to create the website, featuring Western Australia’s largest range of house and land packages.

After setting a budget, preferred home features and selecting a Peet community, tailor-made packages are delivered to the customer online.

Homebuyers can then compare options, adjust their preferences using a sliding scale and view detailed plans to find a dream home that suits their lifestyle.

Peet Limited Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore said the website would save time, streamline the home selection process and make it easier for homebuyers to find the option that specifically suited them.

“Peet House and Land uses dynamic search technology to create packages customised to meet preferences set by homebuyers,” Mr Gore said.

“Peet recognises time is precious and we are pleased to make the home selection process easier by helping homebuyers search for their new home whenever and wherever they like.

Applications have now closed for the 2009 Quattro Community Grants which will support local events, organisations and initiatives in the Queens Park area.

The assessment process is now underway and we will be announcing the successful applicants for grants of up to $2,000, provided by the Department of Housing, in the near future.

Twenty-eight parkside lots in Stage 2C will be released at 1pm on Saturday 3 October 2009 on a first-come-first-served basis.

Peet Limited’s Quattro Sustainable Home has been named the Best Waterwise Home at the 2009 Master Builders-Bankwest Award for Housing Excellence.

The Awards recognise the best builders based exclusively on their building excellence and quality of workmanship.
 
Peet Limited Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Brendan Gore, added his congratulations to Redlink Homes who constructed the Quattro Sustainable Home.

Strong response expected for new land at Quattro

With its first release selling out in just six weeks, a strong response from Perth homebuyers is expected to greet the release of new land at Quattro: The New Queens Park.

Released on Saturday 28 March, Stage 2A includes 26 lots ranging in size from 375sqm to 504sqm and priced from just $199,500 (average $219,741).

This latest release of new land follows Quattro’s first release of 38 lots in December last year which attracted keen interest from homebuyers, offering the rare chance to buy new land so close to the city.

A seven-star rating has to be up there. The Burj Al Arab in Dubai has six-star claims in the luxury-hotel standings but what of its sustainability and green credentials?

In Queens Park, a "mouse" has roared and been awarded seven stars for thermal performance. Sandii Rogers, senior consultant for Solar Dwellings, the designer behind this
Redink-built home, explains: "With a few simple modifications, the single-storey home can be built on any flat, north-east or north-west oriented block with as narrow a frontage as 12.5metres and will achieve excellent thermal performance for natural heating and cooling."

The house has an attractive profile, even with its technological components. Free-form limestone render on entry columns, which support grey steel beams, make an impressive entry.

Bamboo flooring is used in the bedrooms for sustainable and practical reasons. Bamboo has a four-year regeneration cycle and is harder than jarrah.

A passageway leads past bedrooms to the open-plan living area. It doubles as a breezeway, controlling the prevailing westerlies, using high windows to cool the house. It is wide enough for wheelchair access.

The bedrooms have wardrobes built on the outside walls; bathrooms use dark tiles to absorb heat and have four-star shower taps designed to provide water at high pressure but with low volume.

The open-plan area also has thermal-planning features, such as the use of double curtains and an external shade sail adjacent to the sliding doors. The sail is removed in winter to increase exposure to sunlight. The living area is decorated in greys and browns, with white kitchen benchtops and a stainless-steel range hood.

Water tanks are prominent around the house but not dominant. Underground tanks hold household water for recycling.

Photovoltaic cells are placed on the light-grey colorbond roof next to an ecovent which uses thermal variations to ventilate the house.

This home is an important part of Quattro: The New Queens Park, an urban renewal project being undertaken by the Department of Housing and Works, Peet Ltd and the City of Canning.

Peet managing director Brendan Gore said the home demonstrated how sustainable practices could be incorporated into modern building designs in an affordable and practical way.

This home was an entrant in the HIA-ANZ Perth Housing Awards.

Queens Park will soon be welcoming a raft of new residents to the community after eager Perth homebuyers snapped up all available lots in the first release at Quattro: The New Queens Park.
